New Nephew~! - Well, Alissa & I now have three nieces and two nephews with the birth of Jonathan Harrington yesterday! He was almost a month early so it was a bit of a surprise. Luckily, my mom was with Joanne out in New Mexico and could take her to hospital because my brother Jim is in Japan for a conference! Rock....

Wii Music - Has anyone played Wii Music? I want to know whether it rocks or stinks. I'm a casual Wii user. I love Wii Sports. Wii Fit was alright but I was a little disappointed with the limited variety. I liked my Dragon Warrior game. And Wii Play is cool. I haven't played any of the new Mario Wii games. Wii MarioKart looks fun too....

Minnesota Breakfast Review: Uptown Bar & Cafe - Adam & I decided to have breakfast together this morning. After our normal chaotic start (I took ten more minutes to find a parking spot after I realized the downtown meters don't take dimes, we were actually at two different Uptown Cafes - he was at the crowded New Uptown Cafe) we sat down to have something to eat. Caramel Roll: GOOD (why the butter?! Same deal with Pannekoeken Huis?)Coffee: TERRIBLE (I've had Same-Pot-All-Day Oil Change Coffee that tasted better)Ham & Cheddar Skillet: Giant Ham chunks (too big in my book), good cheese melt, messy with bread & eggs, food was slightly cold.Overall: Try somewhere else for breakfast. Lunch might be better with their Hot Dogs!Watching some G4 "The Road Warrior" = AWESOME CONCEPTIONS. "Enter the Dragon" was on earlier; kung-fu movies were so much different in the 70s. They are reportedly remaking Old Boy -- with Will Smith? I don't think it'll work. They have to find someone capable o...

Vote & Molt~! - On election day, I arrived at Arlington High School by 6:40 AM, about twenty minutes before the polls opened. The line was already almost a hundred people deep and while I stood there waiting until seven o'clock, almost a hundred more people arrived. I was pretty surprised when I quickly made it into the gym. This voting location actually serves two precincts - and the vast majority of the people in front of me went to rockin' the right table while I broke left. (Side question: If you're not allowed to wear political buttons/hats/shirts inside the polling place, what about the students? They were walking around with Obama gear on their bookbags.)I was surprised that in the Senate Race (Coleman/Franken) and Congressional Races (Paulsen/Madia) and (Bachmann/Tinklenberg) - all three (currently) went Republican. I would have bet against that trifecta pretty hardily. I am disappointed with the result in CD6, especially when Bob Anderson is listed as an "Independence" cand...

Halloween~! - This year, I dusted off the trusty Grimmace Costume for Halloween. It's origin was in the One-Acts at the University of Rochester where Alissa played the purple one (and coughed up felt each night after the show).I've determined that McDonalds has left this character to die a slow demise. My generation will sadly be the last to truly know the man sometimes speculated as a "large, walking, talking taste-bud". At the party, I was mistaken for everything from a California Raisin to some kind of mutant Teletubby. That does not rock.(Yes, I spell my character with two Ms to keep it separate from the one M licensed character.)...

Sum Dim Some Lose - I've got a new "Pushing Daisies" episode on the TiVo to watch tonight after I finish writing this entry. Mel was home all day today and had two accidents - one in the basement and one in front of the door - which is unusual for her. I wonder if there was some aggrevating factors such as Dogs walking down the street.Rehearsal tonight included a long discussion about race, stereotypes, characters, playing to the truth and personal experiences. I (and Adam) was immediately reminded of some of the conversations that we had back at UR while we were in IBTL. I even found the very thread which contains some of my thoughts from 2003. I think my view has continued to evolve since then, but it's interesting to have a touchpoint from 5 years ago which I can look at.(Mel is now sticking her head under the various Couch cushions which is pretty funny. Silly Rock.)...

Mookie?s ?What?s Going On?? Blog - Adam linked me to an entertaining Ebert review of ?Tru Loved?. I?m probably a bigger fan of Ebert?s essays about film rather than the movies themselves. In college, I was a 35mm projectionist and that was probably the first time in my life that I ever watched the same film more than once in a single day. Since then, I?ve grown a lot and there have been several instances where I?ve watched the same television program (such as the latest House episode) or movie (documentary King of Kong - rocking good film) a second time that same day if I was with someone new.Alissa has been working a lot so I?ve been home with Meliora most evenings. She?s growing up big ? she?s almost 40 pounds and runs extremely quickly. Sometimes, when I know neither of us will be home for several hours, we?ll take to doggy day care and she will be exhausted. We did that on Monday and for the first tim...

An Expanded Version... - I've been pretty tired lately. It's been a whirlwind month. At the end of September, my buddy Mark from Rochester came out to visit for several days. I took some time off work and took him around the Twin Cities to the obligatory Mall of America & Stevie Ray's Improv. About a week after that, my parents came up and stayed with us for a week. I took some more time off work and took them around the Twin Cities including the Mall of America & Stevie Ray's Improv. It was a lot of fun having them in town and Meliora greatly enjoyed spending time with more people! Additionally, I've been teaching a fun Improv II class each Tuesday evening. On Thursday, Alissa & I woke up around 5 AM in order for her to make it to an early-morning Blaine event. I headed into work and had a day of straight meetings from 8 AM to 5 PM. I went home and continued working on my presentation until about a little before Midnight. Friday morning was 3.5 hour meeting that MBA was running ...

Two Hot Dogs at Dairy Queen - It only took the kid at the register three tries to correctly ring up two hot dogs, fries and a soda yesterday. Rock.Wilson is a good name for a sidekick. Tim Taylor (Home Improvement), Gregory House (House) and Chuck Noland (Cast Away).I won the HECA (High Energy - Commitment Award) yesterday after the improv show. Haiiro = Grey - Alissa was away in Duluth for Graduate School on Friday & Saturday and she is doing important voting out the get stuff today so I've been on my own with the puppy for most of the weekend. Yesterday, I broke down and bought two things: the Bret Hart autobiography (Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling) and a Nintendo DS with some games. I tend to be a late adaptor of technology -- we got a Tivo this year, I bought in PS2 in 2004 and I still file my taxes on papyrus. The Bret Hart book was an impulse buy at Barnes & Noble (though it's been spectactular so far - I haven't been this captivated since the first Foley book). However, the Nintendo DS was something that I've been discussing with Alissa for awhile. In particular, I wanted the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior series of games which have been released - especially the latest: Dragon Quest IV. For some reason I thought it was a new game instead of the remake of the NES classic (probably the best game ever made for ...

Thou art a Cooking of Book... - Alissa called me on her way home from school and explained that she needed to go out to Blaine to work tonight. So, I went to ComedySportz TC to finally check it out. After two years of being in this state and doing improv, I felt it was important to see one of their shows! Several of my students have also trained at Comedysportz or gone to see them perform. Since I came from a Theatresports background, I thought we'd have a lot in common - perhaps even more than I had with the crew at Stevie Ray's. After tonight, I don't know.My comedy background is varied just because of the loose natures of of the groups I worked with for the first six years. In 2000, I started performing with University of Rochester's "In Between the Lines". The improv group had only been performing for about a year when I joined and it was a mashup of several people's theatre & improv backgrounds - with a heavy dose of Improv...

Smoke & Whistles - And we're back! It's been a busy number of days since we last joined our fearless hero - but we're back in the thick of things and hjumming a delicious caramel coated apple tune (thank you property management company / Lunds & Byerlys)What's new?* My parents came to visit for a week. We walked the Mall of America, we walked the dog Meliora, we played Wii Fit.* Alissa started her new job as a GOTV - Get out the Vote - Coordinator. She is working on lots of campaigns and often can be seen driving out to Blaine.* I had another weekend of fun shows with my team -- my boss & manager came to enjoy the shows on Friday -- and Adam & I had a good time entertaining the masses! I also hosted the Outtakes show on Saturday which is always dandy because they are funny and I love working with them.* I finished teaching my massive Improv Tech I class (18 people) and started my Improv Tech II class (10 people). I really enjoy teaching because it ...

Joe vs the Volcano Taco - [BEGIN PLUG]Greetings! Two years with Stevie Ray! - Yesterday, after I finished teaching my class, I arrived at the Stevie Ray "Improv in the Park" celebration where I was surprised by an ovation and the closing screens of a laptop presentation. It was celebrating the inaugural award for "The Mookie" which is presented for "Outstanding Achievement in Hosting". At the start of August, I performed my improv mini-tour which included Teaching Tim's Level II class on Thursday, performing at the Cabaret on Friday, hosting both the 8 pm Cabaret show and 10 pm Outtakes show on Saturday and running & hosting both the 5 pm Park show and 7 pm Park show. My major contributions to "Art and Artifice of Hosting" was (brace yourself) creating two separate showlists and even adding minute-by-minute game estimates. This might sound obsessive and anal, and it was. Part of the conundrum that is me, is that while I am messy & disorganized in other aspects of my life, when it comes...

New Mitch Hedberg Album released today! - I have a strange temper. Many people would think that I am pretty even-keeled, but the truth is that when I have indignation about something, I get upset. Today, I ended up storming out of a polling place when the election judge rejected my phone bill for being more than 30 days old. Eventually, Alissa calmed me down, came along with me to VOUCH that I lived at the house that I own, and I was able to vote in a meaningless Republican primary and for some State Justices. After I listened to a NPR report yesterday, I decided that I would rather someone besides Lorie Gildea (who had all of 3 months of Judge experience before the Governor appointed her to the Supreme Court) in her position. At first, I was worried about being late to work when Alissa reminds me that State Law addresses this. As the Office of Ge...

Can I get $330MM if someone protests my blog? - "Officials with the Minneapolis-St. Paul Host Committee calculates it would cost about $330 million to pay for the kind of publicity the region has received " - Minnesota Public Radio this morningI somehow seriously doubt that the images & stories broadcast from this event were worth event a fraction of that amount. Unless blogging from a place called, "Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Twin Cities", will somehow pay the bills in magic sponsership. Yesterday, Alissa had a bit of a harrowing trip home from work when a group of protesters decided it would be safe to disrupt traffic and nearly caused several buses to slam into her. Yes, it makes total sense to endanger the lives of State employees because you don't want to follow the permit rules.I will be home with puppy this weekend while Alissa starts her new semester of school in Duluth. Hopefully, with the convention over, ...

The local news had a graphic of a hot dog during the weather forecast today! - Really, the big news this week is that NBC averaged 31.1 million viewers on Saturday Night during the rocking Michael Phelps medal #8 extravangza. I was performing a show in the Cabaret that evening and there was such a loud pop & ovation from next door (in the hotel bar lounge) when it happened. My favorite tidbit is that they were not able to beat the longstanding record of 31.4 million viewers on Saturday Night for a 1990 episode of EMPTY NEST. WHO LOVES EMPTY NEST THAT MUCH? I could understand it for a very special episode of ALF where he confronts the peeping neighbor and gets to eat the cat or an episode of Inspector Gadget where they show Dr. Claw's face but EMPTY NEST?! NAY I SAY....

Why each of these Trotsky deaths is merely a variation!! - I'm sure others have asked. What's on Michael Phelp's hiphop iPod? I'm going to guess Kayne West's "Stronger". Alissa is doing better - last night was probably the worst night of coughing and sickness, but she rebounded considerably today. Yippee! I finally saw Trampoline today. Baseball is out but Trampoline is in. Okay. I think there should be a new event called, "Ye Olde European Gentlemen Trophy Club" and move over Olympic events such as shooting, equestrian, badminton and rowing. Rock!...
